Features of the language policy of post-Soviet states

Abstract

The paper comprehensively examines the issues of language policy of the former Soviet republics, but special attention is paid to six republics - Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. The meaning of the concept of "language policy", its significance in the domestic and foreign policy of the state, as well as the relationship between the state language, the official language and the minority language in the modern state. The regularities of language policy development in each republic, the place and significance of language policy in post-Soviet states are analyzed. A special place in the work is given to Ukraine - the level of development of language policy, analysis of current problems in the influence of neighboring countries on the language situation in the country. With the help of historical origins, the dynamics of language policy in retrospect is highlighted.
