Abstract

The lecture material of the section Bond valence method, which belongs to the topic Chemical bond of the course General Chemistry, is developed. The chemical bond theory’s evolution is shown, from the advent of atomic-molecular theory and to the present time: gravitational, electrochemical, dualistic, types, Butler's structure, electronic, quantum mechanical. The energies in the Hamiltonian of the Schrödinger equation and its variational solution are considered. A detailed description of the main provisions of the Bond valence method method and their contribution to the covalent bond are presented. The algorithm for constructing of structural formulas of mono- and polynuclear molecules is developed. The lecture material is accompanied by numerous examples.
