Linguocognitive and functional-pragmatic features of ironyeffect in British and Ukrainian linguocultural spaces

Abstract

The Master's thesis is devoted to the analysis of linguocognitive and functionalpragmatic aspects of irony-effect in the British and Ukrainian linguistic and cultural spaces at the level of semantics, themes and stylistics. The material comprises English and Ukrainian proverbs and sayings, selected by the method of continuous sampling from monolingual English and Ukrainian dictionaries. The sample consists of 421 units (201 in English and 220 in Ukrainian) with 158 units analyzed in detail.
