Translation of proper names in fiction

Abstract

The relevance of the chosen topic is caused, on the one hand, by the growing research interest in the onomastic space of different countries, and on the other hand, by the lack of a comprehensive systematic study of their translation in the linguistic parallel: Ukrainian – German – English. The paper highlights the concept of proper names, as well as defines their translation methods in Ukrainian, German and English texts, in particular: transcription, transliteration, calquing, transposition, and analogue replacement. Based on the comparative method, proper names and their translation into Ukrainian / German / English are analysed.
